Working with Templates

Templates are reusable content configurations that define what media plays on your display devices. Create a template once, then publish it to multiple device groups across your stores.

Understanding Templates

A template contains:

  • Device slots - Positions for each display screen
  • Content assignments - Media or scripts assigned to each slot
  • Schedules - When content should play (optional)
  • Display durations - How long each media item shows

Creating a Template

  1. From the home page, click Create new template
  2. The editor opens with a single empty device slot
  3. Enter a name for your template in the name field at the top

Adding Device Slots

Each slot represents a physical screen:

  1. Click Add Device to create a new slot
  2. Repeat for each screen in your typical setup
  3. Drag slots to reorder them

Assigning Content

For each device slot:

  1. Click + Add content at the bottom of the device column
  2. In the dialog, use the content type dropdown to filter by All Content, Media Only, or Scripts Only
  3. Search or browse to find content
  4. Select items and click Add
  5. Drag items to reorder playback sequence
  6. Set display duration for each item (or use company default)

Configuring Schedules (Optional)

Control when content plays:

  • All Day - Content plays continuously (default)
  • Time Range - Set specific start and end times
  • Date Range - Limit content to specific dates
  • Recurrence - Create repeating schedules (daily, weekly, etc.)
  • Exceptions - Exclude specific dates from a schedule

Editing Templates

  1. From the home page, click on a template card
  2. Make your changes in the editor
  3. Click Save to save changes (or enable autosave from the menu)

Publishing Templates

Publishing sends your template content to device groups. You can publish quickly to linked groups, or use the advanced page to select specific device groups.

Quick Publish (Dialog)

  1. Open the template you want to publish
  2. Click Publish in the top right
  3. A dialog appears with two options:
    • In-sync device groups only (Recommended) - Publish only to groups that already have this template
    • All device groups linked to this template - Publish to all groups that have ever received this template
  4. Click Publish Template to publish

This is the fastest way to update device groups that already use this template.

Advanced Publish (Full Page)

For more control over which device groups receive the template:

  1. In the publish dialog, click Advanced: Select specific device groups
  2. The publish page shows all device groups you can publish to
  3. Use the search bar to find groups by name
  4. Use filters to narrow by store or sync status
  5. Check the device groups you want to update
  6. Click Publish Selected or Publish All

Sync Status Indicators

StatusMeaning
In SyncDevice group matches this template
Out of Sync (Edit)Template was edited since last publish
Out of Sync (Publish)Device group has different content
NoneNo template linked

Best Practices

  • Name templates clearly - Use descriptive names like "Summer Promo - Lobby Screens"
  • Use scripts for playlists - If the same sequence plays on multiple templates, create a script
  • Test before wide publish - Publish to one device group first to verify content
  • Keep templates focused - One template per use case is easier to manage than one mega-template
