Publishing to Screens

Publishing sends your template to device groups, making your content available for screens to download.

How Publishing Works​

When you publish a template:

  1. You select which device groups should receive it
  2. Each device in the group receives content based on its position
  3. Screens pick up the new content on their next sync

How Devices Get Their Content​

Templates have multiple device columns, and each column maps to a device in the group by position:

  • Device column 1 in your template → Device 1 in the group
  • Device column 2 in your template → Device 2 in the group
  • And so on...

This means each device in a group can display different content. For example, you might have three screens at a location: one showing a menu, one showing promotions, and one showing announcements — all managed from a single template.

When Screens Update​

Screens don't update immediately when you publish. Instead:

  • Automatic sync: Screens sync with the server overnight to get the latest content
  • Manual sync: Screens can be manually triggered to sync and get updates right away

This means after publishing, your content will appear on screens either overnight or when someone triggers a manual sync on the device.

Publishing a Template​

  1. Open your template
  2. Click Publish
  3. Select the device groups you want to update
  4. Confirm and publish

Device Groups​

Device groups are collections of screens, typically organized by:

  • Location — All screens at a particular store
  • Purpose — All menu boards across multiple stores

The number of devices in a group should match the number of device columns in your template for full coverage.

Sync Status​

The web app tracks which device groups have the latest version of each template. You can see:

  • Which groups are in sync with your template
  • Which groups need to be updated

This helps you know at a glance if all your screens are showing current content.

Updating Content​

To change what's on your screens:

  1. Edit your template (or create a new one)
  2. Publish to the relevant device groups
  3. Wait for screens to sync (overnight) or trigger a manual sync

Publishing to Multiple Locations​

You can publish the same template to device groups across different stores. This is useful for:

  • Company-wide promotions
  • Consistent branding across locations
  • Seasonal content updates

Each device group receives the template, and each device within that group gets content based on its position.
